“Will Power”
Greetings to everyone in (and beyond) our Spokane County Community;
The definition of will-power is: The trait of resolutely controlling your own behavior.
I ask each of you to pause for a moment and consider this; “how is your will power right now?”
Out of all the areas where we must have varying levels of control, one of the most important should be our own behaviors. That would include our choices, actions, attitudes, and words.
As we each think about this; I will begin with a quote today from General Mattis.
“It is mostly a matter of wills. Whose will is going to break first? Ours or the enemies?”
I wish it were not so; yet to varying degrees, we do have enemies in this life journey we are all on.
With that in mind my friends, we all must be ready to take on, (and to win) the battles in our community on behalf of our fellow citizens. Especially for those who are unable to properly defend themselves. Stemming from the General’s quote, for us to effectively fight on behalf of our community, one foundational aspect that must be included in winning any battle, is breaking the will of our enemies.
Today’s Scripture ties directly into this idea and comes from Psalm 3:7.
Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
Today I ask each of us, as members of our large Spokane County Family, this question; “Do we have the willpower that it will take to defeat our enemies, and to take a strong stand against the wicked?“
For us this metaphorically means that we are ready to do what is necessary to preserve law and order in our local communities, and to go the extra mile in protecting all who live in Spokane County. Are we ready and willing to do so in professional ways that would honor God and our Sheriff’s Office?
God Himself does have the willpower to do this! I pray we do too, and that we call upon Him for wisdom and help in doing so when needed.
I encourage us all to decide now to maintain and apply the necessary will power into our planning, training, preparations, and proactive service today and everyday; so that we will have the readiness in our teams (and families) we will all need to face every challenge, every battle, and every enemy of law and order.
As we do this together and hold fast to our integrity, watch how God responds.
